This course will introduce you to welding fundamentals through the instruction and performance of shielded metal arc welding and gas metal arc welding of carbon steel sheet metal and plate.
You will explore welding safety, proper setup of equipment, welding vision and body positioning, stick and MIG welding principles, joint designs and positions, electrodes and evaluation and troubleshooting.
The following items are mandatory items for training and must be provided by the student:
- safety glasses
- leather boots
- welding gloves
- welding helmet (preferably auto-darkening)
- welding jacket
- lineman’s or tongue in groove pliers
- wire brush
- chipping hammer
Additional suggested items (but not mandatory):
head protection, hearing protection (ear plugs), welding sleeves, tape measure, combination square, gas/cutting torch tip cleaner, 4 ½ angle grinder (60 grit sanding discs and wire wheels), extension cord and soap stone or sharpie.
