This 24-hour course is for anyone in a healthcare career who wants to learn about bone densitometry.
You may register for the entire 16-week course or enroll in each 8-hour module separately.

Module 1: Osteoporosis and Bone Health (XAHS-545)
Module 1 of 3 modules covers the following topics about osteoporosis and bone health:
  • Bone physiology
  • Risk factors and consequences
  • Prevention and treatment options.

Module 2: Methods of Bone Densitometry (XAHS-546)
Module 2 of 3 covers the different methods of bone densitometry for both peripheral and central site and includes:

  • Anatomy
  • Landmarks
  • Patient preparation
  • Positioning for each method
  • Different types of equipment used to perform bone density
  • Screening and diagnosis
  • Basic statistical concepts
  • Measures used
  • Scan analysis

Module 3: Radiation Safety in X-Ray Densitometry (XAHS-526)
Module 3 of 3 covers the following topics about osteoporosis and bone health:

  • Fundamental principles of radiation safety
  • Biological effects of radiation
  • Measurement
  • Exposure and protection
  • State and OSHA requirements
